Ten days into the eighth month of the year, I've just crossed the 550-mile mark. I'm in great shape to pass my annual mileage record of 679 miles, set in 2009. But that's not good enough, is it?
My goal for 2011 is to run 1,000 miles. It's been my goal all year, but I haven't gone public with it until now. Instead, I've opted to use bite-sized monthly goals to keep myself engaged and to prevent any discouragement that might come from staring down the four-digit mountain.
But now I've crossed the halfway mark, and after a lazy - and HOT - summer, I feel it's time to get serious and blast through the last 448 miles.
It's an exceedingly attainable goal. I figure I can easily run 60 more miles this month. That will leave me with 388 miles to go between Sept. 1 and Dec. 31. If I can run 97 miles per month for each of those four months, I'll meet my goal.
So here goes...
